A Break in the Chaos

This whole week so far has been wonderful! The temperature outside is 90 degrees but it feels like it's 100 degrees. Tomorrow it's supposed to be even hotter. I can't believe I'm saying that it's been a wonderful week ... heat I don't usually get along with my myasthenia gravis.

Earlier in the week, I worked outside pretty much all day. I haven't done that for 2 years! I also had to go pick up one of my grandchildren from school, picked a large amount of morale mushrooms, and gave them to a friend of mine along with 6 dozen fresh eggs.

Visits from family members

My oldest son and his wife recently came down to visit as well. We celebrated Mother’s Day and my sixtieth birthday. They also wanted to come down to clean up the yard from winter and to clear the back of our dam from small trees and brush.

Now, between my oldest son and his wife they have 6 kids ... all right teenagers. But only 4 came this time. My daughter also came over, bringing her teenage son.

I always get worn out when the kids come over, but I'm okay with that. Not one of them have a problem with helping me knowing that I'm always going to have a home cooked meal for them, no matter what. I also always make time to engage somehow on a personal level which each and every one of them.

My symptoms started

Eventually, my face was getting hard to move and smile. I was walking as if I was drunk. The Mestinon was not keeping up any longer and the eye issues were bad. Eating was getting hard between trying to chew and swallow food. But I wasn't quite at point of putting food in a blender (that has happened before on days like this.)

Then the voice changes started - the slurring of words. But I was still up and moving! This is usually just a normal day for me. But I figured after making homemade bread for hamburger buns, my family would arrive and a couple of my grandchildren could help me finish making potato salad, and then forming that bread into buns.

Adventures with my grandchildren

We had adventures of going mushroom hunting. Two of my granddaughters were picking violets to make jelly when they found a baby rabbit with its head caught in some chicken wire.

We have the wire around our rhubarb to keep the deer out. The rabbit was being chased by a snake but we got the baby bunny out to safety and relocated the snake.

I overdid it

Throughout the day, I think I made 4 roundtrips the length of a football field and countless trips up and down the stairs. I had definitely overdone it.

On Sunday we had to go do our normal weekly shopping. I was still so tired even with my motorized wheelchair, my husband ended up needing to push me because I didn't have the strength to run the controls or even set up straight.

After getting home, I went straight to bed and slept all afternoon and all night.
