MG and Eastern Medicine Practices
It was a cold day in January 2022 when I fell while walking my dog. She was a pup at the time, so it made no sense to me that I was unable to catch myself. My neck and back hurt so badly that I went to see my orthopaedist who had performed back surgery on me a few years prior. Everything was normal for a 72 year-old, other than severe muscle spasms. Over the next few months, I became weaker, choked, and had trouble speaking. I found it difficult to hold utensils. I was also becoming increasingly tired and losing energy. This made no sense to me as I was used to walking three to five miles per day and working in my yard for hours.
Discovering my myasthenia gravis diagnosis
Finally I went to see my gerontologist. After examining me thoroughly, she said she wanted to take an Acetylcholine Receptor (AChR) blood test. When the results came back we were both amazed. Normal was 0.02 and my results were a 12. Five months later I was finally able to see a neurologist who confirmed her diagnosis. It took another two months for me to begin receiving Vyvgart infusions and going on cellcept.
Over the next year and a half, my infusions switched from monthly to weekly. My neurologist eventually had me on the highest dosage of cellcept that he felt comfortable prescribing. Then I received a call from a friend who told me about Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary's book The Prime. She said that by following the diet prescribed by this neurologist (who was also an Ayurvedic practitioner), her lupus had improved dramatically. I decided that since I was already a meditator, I would follow her guidelines and taper off the cellcept which had never helped, and see what transpired. I also began seeing an acupuncturist and going on the Chinese herbs prescribed.
Results of my new treatment
The results have been amazing! A year and a half after having my first AChR test, a second was drawn. My result was now a 9. Then a month after starting my Eastern medicine approach for myasthenia gravis, combined with Western medicine's Vyvgart, my third AChR score was 5. Then my friend told me about Dr. Chaudhary's second book, Sound Healing. I chose to begin meditating in the evenings as well as mornings. I also started chanting an Indian chakra chant where I immediately began feeling vibrations resonating throughout my body.
Reclaiming my life back
For the past month, I have begun the maintenance recommendations for my diet and am now able to resume walking three miles every other day. The only symptoms I still have are intermittent facial paralysis, nerve pain down both my arms, legs that awakens me from a deep sleep, and blurriness in my left eye. I'm hoping that when I see my neurologist in April he will have another AChR test drawn so we can see the results now that I have been off the cellcept, gone to a maintenance Ayurvedic diet, and increased my meditation practices.
