Two Autoimmune Diseases

I was diagnosed with MG on June 2, 2021.

The first major symptom was waking up with double vision. After seeing my PCP, he sent me to an ophthalmologist the same day. The PCP thought of Bells Palsy. But the ophthalmologist stated, "I think you have MG."

The call I didn't want

A blood test was ordered, but while waiting I felt worse every day. A week later PCP sent me to the hospital. On the way, I got a call with the results. MG.

After 3 days I was released. It's been up and down since. Unfortunately, I lost my job due to the physical nature of it. They couldn't make reasonable accommodations.

Adding another to the list

2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with another chronic autoimmune disease. Chronic Ulcerative Colitis. At this point, I'm taking 10 autoimmune pills a day. My UC has improved pain-wise, but I still have aways to go. Tomorrow I see my pulmonary doctor who has already diagnosed me with first-stage COPD. We will be reviewing CT scan and X-rays of my lungs.

My biggest concern is the loss of the ability to maintain even minimal independence. I hope that those in our community get the help, and understanding that neurologists often are short of. 🙏
