First I must state that this is not legal advice, simply sharing some links with you that have been helpful for me in the past when I obtained Social Security disability income.
The federal government has very specific requirements for awarding people, Social Security disability, it can be impacted by how much you’ve paid into the system, but most importantly, it’s whether or not you meet it, specific guidelines, and definition of disability under the umbrella of this particular branch of government…
…………… We consider you to have a qualifying disability under our rules if all the following are true:
You cannot do work and engage in substantial gainful activity (SGA) because of your medical condition.
You cannot do work you did previously or adjust to other work because of your medical condition.
Your condition has lasted or is expected to last for at least 1 year or to result in death.
……………
If you’ve paid into the system, as you’ve mentioned, you have, there will be a series of five questions/ conditions that they require to be met, including your condition must significantly limit your ability to do basic work-related activities, such as lifting, standing, walking, sitting, or remembering – for at least 12 months. If it does not, we will find that you do not have a qualifying disability.
