Speech

Hi, I am from Pakistan, What you all do for speech-improvement?

  1. hello , I normally take my medication (mestinon) and take a break from speaking. When I have slurred speech, talking seems impossible. Juliana mentioned that her husband goes speech therapy. Have you asked your doctor of different ways to help improve your speech? Sometimes taking a nap helps too, anything that will let your body rest from using the muscle too much. - Jazmin (team member)

    1. My husband has had several series of speech therapy. It does help, but must be continued every day at home. He gets a video examination periodically. His speech gets very weak and high pitched when he is tired and when he has flare ups. I can hear the effects of his mestinon kick in and then fade. Speech therapy can be relatively simple--just singing while you sit--or more complex. But it is very important. There are also treatments for the soft palate.

      1. Thank you for sharing that. I normally only had speech therapy when I'm admitted to the hospital. But never had it on a regular bases. I didnt think that using the muscles when they were already weak would help. But I know that they also find different words for you to use that sound similar to what you are trying to say. - Jazmin (team member)
