What painkillers can I take

I suffer with two bad knees. One I had replaced quite some years ago and the other needs replacing but I am reluctant due to the risk of infection. I am struggling to manage the pain. Does anyone have any recommendations of good pain control? I am currently taking Pyridostigmine and Prednisolone. Thank you for your help

  1. CommunityMember25289b Oh that's not fun!! How long have you had MG? Have your Dr/s ever considered other treatments for your MG. What cause you knee pain and need for replacement?
While my knees do bother me at times it is my spine that cause the most pain for me. I have had epidural steroid injections in my spine that did help some.
I know they also give steroid injections in the knees for pain at times also. I have bad osteoarthritis throughout my entire body head to toe. With all the bells and whistles that can go with that.
I also use heat & ice. Put pillow under my knees and between my knees at time while laying down and sitting. I have a prescription of an anti-inflammatory medication that I take 2 times a day. Filling in with Arthritis Strength Tylenol when need. And all this just barely keeps the pain away.

You said you are reluctant to have the other knee replaced because of risk of infection. Did you have issues with this after your first replacement? Or is the reluctance because of the MG? Hugs & Hoping for the best for you!! Sally Farrier...Myasthenia-Gravis.com (team member).

    1. Hi I can understand not wanting to risk an infection. Hopefully others who have a similar experience will respond with what has helped them. Have you spoke with your doctor about what options would be a good fit for you? That would be an excellent question to ask, as they know your medical history best. In the meantime, I included a link to an article that I thought may be of interest. The article speaks about pain and MG. It also speaks briefly about using caution with some medications - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/clinical/pain. I also included a link to a list of medications that are recommended to avoid or use with caution, this is why it is important to work closely with your doctor on what medications you should/should not take - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/clinical/drugs-vaccines-to-avoid. I truly hope you and your doctor can find an option that will help you find some relief from the pain. Sending comforting hugs your way. -Jessica, Team Member
