Bi-pap machine

Hi,
New to MG.
My MG has attacked my breathing the most and I talked to the doctor about it, and she mentioned that maybe a Bi-Pap machine may help.
Anyone have any advice or tips and feel that it has helped ?
Any brand that has been found to work better or any brands that are not worth buying ?

  1. I had a cpap, similar to bipap before MG, it allows me to sleep better because when i snore my wife doesn't kick me and wake me up. No snoring with a cpap/bipap. I had a machine for years and most recently i switched masks and wow what difference. My old mask the hose went to my nose, with a head strap, and pretty much was uncomfortable to sleep on my side and not possible to sleep on my stomach. New mask the hose attaches at the top of the head and the mask is way more comfortable, and I can turn with ease, just much better.

After having had MG for maybe 6 months, i had an MG crisis, stress/emotionally triggered, but as opposed to when I would hike, early on in MG, and my breathing would get difficult, i would slow down, rest and recover and continue on. Breaks when hiking got to be every 100 feet or so, eventually i stopped hiking, but the MG crisis, was 100% no air, couldn't inhale/exhale/speak, just nothing. I went straight to my cpap, nearly blacked out, and put my mask on, 20 MINUTES later an ambulance showed up, had i not had that cpap machine i wouldn't be here. I bought a 2nd mobile cpap and keep it in my car, just in case, never used it, but i do use the one I sleep with every night.

Before going on IV treatments, when MG started getting really bad, i couldn't sleep on my back any more, too hard to breath, so i would sleep on my side and use the cpap, was definitely better. Now i'm on IV treatments, 4 months now, breathing is much better, i can sleep on my back again. I just get winded very easily, doing just 1 flight of stairs and i'm panting. Otherwise, life is pretty normal now.

I use the resmed airsense, think 11... I also have a soclean sanitizer for it, think it generates O3 to kill any germs.

    1. Hi,
Yes, I've noticed one of the scariest experiences so far is shortness of breath or no breath at all.
      Thank You for the advice.

      1. I already had a bipap machine when I came down with MG. It does help my breathing, especially when my brain doesn't tell my body to breathe.Seems to build up pressure when I hold my breath and forces me to breathe.

        1. Thank You.
So, it forces my lungs to function when the MG wants to shut it down.
          Interesting and makes sense now.
          Thanks Again

      2. I had to use a Bi-pap machine while in the hospital with MG. It helps a lot with breathing. After IVIG treatments, my breathing improved and I no longer needed it. At this point I still breath ok on my own. If you need it at home, you should see if you can rent it because you may not need it in the future. Be careful, your breathing problems may land you into the hospital ER. Don't hesitate if you are very short of breath.
