MG??

This is the first time I have heard of this. When I was a teenager, I started having trouble swallowing solid or dry foods. A bite of apple, sandwich or meat would always get stuck and I would have to drink half a glass to a full glass of water or whatever to get it down. In my 20s it got worse, as I even had issues swallowing liquids. I would have panic attacks just trying to get water down at times. Around 25(in 1992) I went to a specialist who did the Barium swallows, but all they could tell me was that my esophageal muscles weren't working properly. There was no diagnoses no treatment. They sent me on my way, saying, "this may resolve itself or it may not, adjust your diet accordingly." So I am wondering now, seeing this forum and these messages, if it is MG?? I am doing better these days, but still cannot swallow sold foods.

  1. Hello we can understand your concerns. Have you considering reaching out to a specialist about your suspicions? Symptoms commonly associated with MG can overlap other conditions. I included an article on MG symptoms here - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/symptoms. I also shared some information on diagnosis and finding a doctor who understands the condition - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/diagnosis. and - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/finding-doctor-specialists. Lastly, I shared information on issues with swallowing - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/swallowing-speaking-symptoms. And https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/swallowing-safety. I hope this information is helpful and you get to the root cause of your symptoms ASAP. Wishing you well. -Jessica, Team Member
