Myasthenia crisis???

After an extremely busy weekend visiting family, I woke feeling slightly unwell. Usually if I overdo things I get flares of my symptoms: off-balance, tired, pain through most of my body, etc. But this day was different. By lunchtime, I was vomiting and had to lie down. I started getting slight chest pain periodically and had nausea and generally felt unwell. Not my usual thing. After about 3 hours on the bed, I decided we needed to call the ambulance. On their arrival, my blood pressure was dangerously high and I had a headache. Still had on and off chest pain. Off to the hospital. Bloods confirmed not cardiac but my BP took hours to come down to a reasonable level. Sent home with instructions to follow up with GP the next day. I'd be interested to hear if others have blood pressure issues when they're having a flare up.

  1. In the following article, https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/prescribed-cautionary-drugs, Sally describes how "during my most recent major flare, my blood pressure kept going sky high."

I think you will also be interested in the following article and scientific study: https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/blood-pressure-monitor-guide about "people with myasthenia gravis (MG) may be at a higher risk of high blood pressure (BP) compared to the rest of the population" & https://www.rarediseaseadvisor.com/news/changes-short-term-blood-pressure-variability-linked-mg-severity/.

Certain MG treatments, such as prednisone, can also cause an increase in blood pressure. Are you on any at the moment?

    1. I am so sorry to hear what you endured over the weekend. Hopefully anyone who has had any similar experience will respond soon. How are you feeling today? Have you had your follow up with your GP? Sending lots of positive vibes your way. Kindly, Jessica (Team Member)
