IVIg or SCIg

I was diagnosed with M.G. almost 17 years ago, and since then have been on Mestinon when I take a 180 mg.Slow Release tablet first thing in the morning, and another last thing at night. These have kept me quite stable, save when due to extreme stress situations, I was in hospital mostly for just a couple of days. The cost of my Mestinon is not covered by insurance, though the specialist's work is covered by the Provincial Government's medical plan.

In the Spring of 2022 I had a couple of falls, and my neurologist determined I'd lost considerable strength in my left leg, and he then booked series of monthly in hospital IVIg infusions each of which takes between 4 and 5 hours with the drip into a vein and which outs in about 750 ml. of plasma. This treatment started in June 2022 and I am scheduled for the last one in January 2024, just a few weeks from now. I have an appointment with my Neurologist who diagnosed me with M.G.

Yesterday, he phoned me and suggested I investigate SCIg and possibly consider having it prescribed rather than continue with the IVIg infusions. Has anyone of the M.G. Community been treated with both these treatments, and if so, what would their recommendation be for me.

  1. Ultimately, my Neurologist recommended I stay with monthly plasma infusions, and these are now booked till February 2025.

    1. Hi , I wanted to follow up and see if you ended up trying SCIg? If so, what was your experience? Best, Allison (Team Member)
