MG Exacerbation after Antibiotics?

Hi everyone! Has anyone had an MG exacerbation after a course of antibiotics? If so, how long has it lasted? And what antibiotics were to blame? I have been in remission for years without medication but currently experiencing a mild exacerbation after dealing with a bad case of strep and a strong course of antibiotics (penicillin didn't work so then went on high-dose cephalosporin in this case). I have been off of the antibiotics for about a week now but the MG symptoms are still there. I have seen the charts that have been published of antibiotics to avoid and have had success in avoiding the more MG-problematic medications. All the literature says that cephalosporin hasn't shown to cause exacerbations, and I have dealt with many different illnesses and used many different types of antibiotics without issue over the years so just wanted to see what people's experiences have been while I am awaiting a neuro appointment. Thanks in advance for any insights!

  1. It might. There are gradations of responses. But the strep itself can cause problems. Any stress to your body can exacerbate MG. Be well.
