Myasthenia flare up

Hi all,

I was diagnosed at 21 years old, with mg and thymoma over 2 years ago. I was treated with steroids, IV and chemotherapy for thymoma tumour and have been somewhat stable for the past 2 years. Recently turned 24 and have experienced a sudden flare up of my symptoms; I’m unaware of the causes and feel really worried as I have an upcoming trip abroad. Please let me know if you have experienced something similar and how to stabilise it again, if you know anything. I fly in a less than a week!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear you are experiencing symptoms after feeling so much better for awhile. I know the big triggers for me and a lot of us include stress, changes to medications including vitamins and supplements and extreme heat. Could you possibly be stressed about your upcoming trip or for another reason? Or maybe introduced or tried a new medication? - Mallory (Myasthenia-Gravis.com Team)

    1. thank you. I’ve been slightly stressed regarding my trip but nothing more than the usual nerves of traveling after a long time. As for medication, I’ve been on the same medications for 2 years- only the doses have changed throughout that period. Can you elaborate on vitamins please? Would you say they’re triggers?

P.S. I’ve seen my consultant and he said it may have been a mixture of the heat and the infection I had before. I’ve upped my doses of all medications I take now (again) and have taken a course of antibiotics- let’s see how things go.
