does anyone have fingers that suddenly curl up and hurts when you put them str8?

About 2 weeks ago a finger on my left had would spontaneously curl straightening it out was painful

Now it feels something is wrong with the whole hand especially the palm

Does anyone have any comments on this situation?

  1. Not sure this is related, but I cramp in my fingers and toes. Occasionally a calf cramp and mid back. I'm gMG seropositive. I've dosed 5 60mg Mestinon a day. Given the nature of Mestinon in essence increasing the acetylcholine present in the neuro gap I mentioned this to my neurologist and he backed me down to 4 a day. Seems to have worked (much less events), but this dosing of medication is very delicate and like MG very individual based; check with your doctor. Just some food for thought.

    1. This happens to my toes all the time and I agree...trying to straighten them out is super painful. As for my hands I had extreme wrist pain that would shoot to my thumbs. I ended up having double tendinitis in both hands which probably wasn't MG related. I hope you are able to go to the doctors to see if they can find the root of the problem. For me if I start having a toe/foot spasm I will drink some orange juice and or eat a banana. Sometimes spasm can also be related to dehydration and having some type of vitamin deficiencies. - Jazmin (MG team member)

      1. If you can stop the spasm with OJ or a banana have your K checked I have to take a potassium supplement every day as my potassium is always on the low side I cannot recall in 50 years of having potassium even in the mid range

      2. Thank you for the advice. I just had a doctors appointment today (before I saw this) I'll have to wait for my next appointment in Feb to ask about that. No, I'll send them an email and maybe they'll let me go in for lab work, without going in for an actual appointment. - Jazmin (MG team member)

    2. I am pretty sure it is not arthritis just the one finger -- nothing else hurts or is not moving thanks for the thoughts Gerry

      1. I used to have this issue the first year that I had MG. My fingers and toes would seem to curl up on its own and it would be hard to straighten out. I would usually have a family member massage my hands or I would try my best to lay my hand flat out against an object. For my toes, I remember when I was in the hospital, the nurses would put heat pack bags inside my socks and put them under my feet and that seemed to help.

        1. interesting it is only one finger that is causing the problem my chiropractor believes it is the MG will keep going to him no problem with other fingers or toes thanks for your input Gerry

        2. hope it gets better!
