Equivocal Result on MG blood test

Hi everyone. I have not been diagnosed with anything as of yet but I certainly have something I'm going through and wanted to run my symptoms by you.

Starting about 4 weeks ago I've had, in this order, left eye twitching for a month, Dizziness/lightheadedness, weak shoulders, painful forearms, twitching and cramping fingers and hands, weak upper legs, twitching muscles throughout my body, voice weakness and now raspiness, upper lip not working as per normal though that fluctuates and now a cough and breathing that seems weak. For the past 6 months I've also had extreme cold sensitivity which has lessened and the back pain I've had for several years and very badly had for the past 6 months just disappeared.

My SPO2 is normal, had an MRI of my cervical spine and brain also normal, had a CTA of my neck and brain - normal - lots of labs - normal, ANA 1:1280, ENA normal, CK,SED and CRP all normal. The only thing that can back a little weird was my MG test which again was only Equivocal. EMG of both legs was also normal. They didn't want to do my upper extremities because I had ACDF surgery a year ago and they felt as though there would be abnormalities regardless.

What do you all think? Does any of it sound familiar? What should I do. The docs have all just kind of stopped.

  1. Hi sorry to hear about the symptoms you are experiencing and that you are not receiving much direction from your physicians. One option could be to seek out a different doctor for another perspective/opinion. Diagnosing MG can be challenging, as sometimes symptoms can overlap with other conditions. I included a link to some information on symptoms commonly associated with MG and diagnosis - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/symptoms and https://myasthenia-gravis.com/diagnosis. I also included an article on obtaining a second opinion, in case you were interested - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/getting-second-opinion. I hope this information is helpful and you can find a medical professional that gets to the root cause of your symptoms. Kindly, Jessica, MG Team Member

    1. Equivocal is a result some labs have for their test for Myasthenia Gravis. It seems like an outdated way to test. Experts I’ve listened to have stated they prefer using Mayo Clinic for testing as they state that ANY antibodies above the minuscule amount of just
< or =0.02 nmol/L should be a positive test because it’s abnormal to have ANY antibodies in your blood. See link below

      1. Hi all, is there anyone on this forum? Really hoping for help.

        1. Yes, we are here to help! How can we help you? We also have numerous articles people with MG have written. It's about our own experiences, what we did, & the outcome. Hope to hear from you soon! Best wishes! - · - Janice (Myasthenia-Gravis.com site moderator)
