I was diagnosed as ocular MG in 2006, double vision was the only symptom. I got treatment of prednisone , starting from 60 mg, taping down to low doze after 10 months. Then I switched to Mestinon to reduce the side effect. After several months, unfortunately the symptom relapsed and become more severe, not only double vision but also ptosis, my legs and arms also gradually lost strength. One day I found I could not turned the non of the washer machine!
That was a scaring experience, I went back to use prednisone again , this time from 20 mg, and gradually tapering down to a low dose. The following 10 years I had been struggling with finding a balance of the doze and my symptoms. My goal also changed all the time. It looked like very hard to get rid of medication, but that was my ultimate goal.
I started to find alternative solutions: TCM, QiGong, Taichi, Yoga, meditation, nutrition, positive thinking, finally I found a holistic self-healing solution for myself. On 2016 I fully got rid of any medications, no prednisone, no mestinons, no vitamin-D, no calciums… when I shared it to a doctor, he said it was just a miracle.
Another three years passed, I went through Covid. I took two shots and maintained my health quite well.
I feel I fully return to a fully normal life. Yes, I haven’t taken any medications for more than 5 years!
Recently I joined the Nationals table tennis competition in Fort Worth. Although I didn’t get into quarter-final, I was still very happy to see that I advanced to the second rounds.
On the way back to California, I said to myself, one day I should share my story to more people. I was intrigued by a patient and touched by her article talking about two years experience of healing herself.
I just want to share my experiences and wish MG Community can have new hope: never give up and be proactive.
