Surgery Yesterday

Hello,

Just thought I'd share I had my thymectomy yesterday. Up walking pretty quick should be discharged tomorrow all things been well. Feel pretty drugged up. I am going to write a little diary of my experience with photos of incisions etc which will be hosted somewhere that will allow me to do so. Had this on the NHS in England so may be helpful for those in the UK due to system being different. Just want to thank people here for support and kind words throughout my journey so far and it's nice to see how everyone supports one another. Hopefully I get some positive outcomes 😀

  1. Hi there had my thymectomy four years ago and been symptom free ever since. Surgery is the best option for people my age of 82. Happy new year to you all

    1. Happy new year to you as well!

  2. Thanks for checking in and Happy New Year 😀 still intending on putting up my experience but I have images that may not be appropriate due to where they are and obviously they can be a bit gruesome to some people so is there somewhere I can send it first before it's posted? Or somewhere else I can post it?

All in all it probably took about 4-6 weeks to feel pretty 'normal'. I went back to work after 2 weeks (my job is fairly sedentary and only part time) but i'd say 12 weeks before I felt full recovered from the surgery. My incision sites are still very visible but healing, though I have abnormal scar healing anyway so i expected that. I have felt some difference though its only really in my eyes and maybe a little in my breathing and neck. Still on prednisolone though I'm taking less pyridostigmine. I started getting symptoms well over 15 years ago so I don't expect miracles to be honest and I expect it to take a while, but im glad there has been some changes in my eyes 😀

    1. I totally understand your concern about the images. It’s great that you want to share your experience. You might consider sending a description of the photos privately over email to contact@Myasthenia-Gravis.com. Then, if they want to see the pictures, you can send them for approval.
