What Different Specialists Are In Your Healthcare Team?

What various specialists and doctors make up your healthcare team?

  1. I now have three of them. A Neuro Ophthalmologist who gave me an immediate diagnosis after wasting six months with a regular ophthalmologist. I live in a rural area and went through a couple of PCP's who said they had expertise in such but neither gave a darn about me or even took the time to remember what they had done my previous visit. Immediately after my diagnosis I added an endocrinologist to counteract the actions of the previous PCP's who thought a glucose level of 400 was sustainable! I now have what looks to be a really good PCP.

I have been relatively healthy my whole life, went to the doctor once a year and then, only because my office required it, and I pretty much was accepting of their care. Lesson learned, Doctors are human, if it sounds like BS it most likely is, move on.

  2. My primary care provider functions as the coordinator for my care, but for my MG issues, my local neurology PA is the one I see the most. I have a neuromuscular specialist about 3 hours away, but using the patient portal for communication and having a couple of consultations via phone, as well as in-person visits as needed, works well for me. Because I have recurring prostate cancer, my urologist is also in the loop and helpful.

    1. We appreciate you sharing!
