What were your immediate changes after your MG diagnosis?
Shelbie Brown
As we begin our MG journey, there is the initial shock. After that, we realize that we need to make adjustments in our daily lives. What were you first and biggest changes you needed to make for your everyday life?
I was told I could not drive and could not work by 2 MDs, so I was very afraid of getting anywhere without driving. I sold my car because of that because there was no reason to pay insurance, etc. - but per my Opthalmologist. they should not have told me this since anyone can drive with one eye and to use an eye patch. I had to get another car which was difficult thru all this but I am driving now with no problem.

I had to quit working and so then had to find somewhere inexpensive to live...moved to a small town outside of Fresno and found that the small hospital there wasn't able to take care of me. The first seven years were the toughest, at one point being in a wheelchair after being ventilated for 10 days. It was a leaning cerve, I'd never been sick before. Had to learn to work with MG and not against it. That was the hardest thing...

I live outside of Visalia and found a wonderful neurologist but he is not an MG specialist. He studies what are new treatments for me tho. The heat in this valley is very hard to handle.

There an MG specialist at UC Davis in Sacramento. His name is Dr Richmond. He's a great doctor but no bed side manner. I go to see him when my regular neurologist doesn't know what to do.
