Is anyone else on azathioprine?

I have been taking azathioprine now for several months, but it does not seem to be helping much for muscle weakness and fatigue. My neurology PA said it can take a year to be effective. Does anyone else have anything to report on its effectiveness? The plan was for me to eventually be able to reduce or stop taking prednisone when the azathioprine works, but that does not seem very likely right now.

  1. I took 200MG/day of azathioprine for a year before it started working and I was able to taper off of prednisone. Worked for 6 years, i.e., I was symptom free. As of one week ago had my first flair up and now back on prednizone. So in my case I would say it worked well for a long time.

    1. Thanks. That's good to know.

  2. Hello hopefully others will weigh in with their experiences. In the meantime, I included an article on azathioprine, which has a comment at the bottom of the article from a fellow community member - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/living/azathioprine. I also included another post from a fellow community about azathioprine. I thought it might be of interest - https://myasthenia-gravis.com/stories/second-azathioprine. I hope you and your medical team can find what will be beset for you. Sending many positive vibes and hugs. -Jessica, Team Member
