Huperzine-A

I have found that Huperzine-A (a Chinese herb) was originally found to be of help with Alzheimer, has shown some value with MG as well ...

Does anyone have any experience with this?

  1. I had heard Huperzine A was similar to pyridostigmine but haven't tried it. Thanks, David75, for sharing your experience. Too bad it didn't help. Has anyone tried Bacopa? I read that that supplement was also supposedly similar to pyridostigmine. Just curious.

  2. I'm trying it right now, so we'll see. Huperzine works just like pyridostigmine. It is an acetylcholinesterase inhibiter, which means it suppresses the mechanism that removes acetylcholine, leaving more available for use by your muscles. The difference is that Huperzine penetrates the blood/brain barrier and increases the acetylcholine levels in your brain as well That might potentially relieve brain fog and some mental decline. I met one user a few days ago who takes it in conjunction with pyridostigmine. There are many small clinical studies. I read more than 40. But there is unlikely to ever be a major medical study because it is an OTC supplement.

    1. The above post I wrote in November. My test of Huperzine was unsuccessful. It made my heart race without providing any apparent benefit. I discontinued after three months.
