MG Patient in South Africa

Hello all. I was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) a few years ago, not long after I had recovered from another autoimmune condition. It's often said the body can heal itself if given the right environment, and I believe the subtle changes I made to my diet and lifestyle played a role in my recovery from the first condition. I am a 52-year-old female.

My neurologist explained MG very clearly to me. I had previously thought the miscommunication happened in the brain on the way to the muscles. It turns out the issue is in the neuromuscular junction, the "junction box" at the top point of every muscle. This is where the body attacks the acetylcholine receptors—the little links connecting the nerve to the muscle.

Treatment and Side Effects

He prescribed an amazing medication for it. While it has helped significantly, it does come with some pretty unpleasant side effects, notably causing gastrointestinal upset (a runny tummy).
