Branded medication

Hello, is there any documentation regarding the effects of different drug brands in myasthenia patients?

  1. Thank you so much Julie , you have been very helpful..
I will ask our GP to state the No substitute, that is very reassuring to hear.
    Kind regards
    Maura

    1. Hi Julie,
My wife has has MG for 10 years now.
Changes in medication do trigger her symptoms which is common I know.
There have been occasions where a different manufacturer of the same drug have caused her to become unwell so the pharmacy have always been accommodating in that respect up till now.
They don't seem to want to listen and are dismissing my point regarding this.
In the meantime Sandra is becoming very stressed and frightened and will not take the latest change in brand
So I was wondering if there is anything to validate my point.
      Regards
      Maura

      1. I’m trying to get a better understanding of what you’re interested in. Are you looking for information on common side effects? -Julie (team member)

        1. Hi Julie.
My wife has MG for 10 years now and changes to new drugs have triggered her MG so they are rarely changed.
However in the past certain drugs when administered from a different manufacturer of the same drug have caused her to become unwell.
Up to now the pharmacy has been accommodating to this requirement for Sandra. They are now dismissing our concerns and it is basically taken what we give you.
Sandra is sure she read about this but can't remember where.
I am looking for documentation to help put our concerns across.
          Regards, Maura

        2. thank you for clarifying, I’m sorry your wife is having to deal with this. While I couldn’t find literature on MG specific drugs, I was able to find some pertinent information on generic drugs. While the active ingredients must be the same amongst these drugs, there are small variations in things like color and flavor that could possibly be negatively impacting your wife. I also found an article that states your doctor can write your script for a specific brand or brand name and include ‘no substitutes’ and the pharmacy must fill it as written https://www.cedars-sinai.org/blog/generic-vs-brand-name-drugs-whats-the-difference.html and https://www.pfizer.com/news/articles/7_faqs_about_generic_drugs. I hope this is helpful. Wishing you both well, Julie (team member)
