Drug comparison help

I have had 3 Octagam IVIG treatments and response is positive. Yet my neurologist wants me to change to Imaavy. I am wondering why, he doesn't seem to have a specific reason. Imaavy seems to have alot of side effects. Anyone have a comment?

  1. I went to a specialist after being on IVIG for about 4 months and IVIG was working fine, it made my really bad symptoms better, made me somewhat normal, and the specialist suggested I try vyvgart instead and stated it is aimed more specifically at treating MG vs IVIG is a general anti-virus treatment. I will say my ability to lift heavy things has improved with vyvgart, i'm not back to where I was pre-mg, but am a bit better.

His suggestion was to just try it and compare and I could go back to IVIG if it doesn't pan out. I was like it can't hurt, so i tried it. I'm haven't tried Imaavy, so no info on that specifically, but it would be interesting to hear back on your experience.

    1. Very different treatments. Octagam is an IVIG treatment, as you noted, and uses plasma from donated blood. Imaavy is new drug administered by infusion that addresses one mechanism involved in MG.

IVIG treatments are often temporary. They are particularly useful in treating crisis cases and severe symptoms. Transitioning from IVIG to a pharmaceutical is common.

Please report back to us your results from using Imaavy. It has only been out a couple months and we haven't heard from anyone using it. Drug trials were very promising and it has the unusual benefit of being effective against both AChR and MUSK antibodies.
