VISION

I have have had 20 over 25 business in my left eye. Suddenly, I could not read even the 1st line. Dr. Checked all the computer scans from last 4 years and nothing was different! Following visit, I was able to read 1st two lines only. No explanation.

  1. my optometrist wanted to give me refracted lenes for my MG, after originally being on Pyridostigmine, the double vision went away, i'm glad i didn't pay for those lenses. Then I had an adverse reaction to that drug and went on prednisone which also, eventually did away with the double vision. Sounds like your double visions, however is not the issue and you have having yet a different issue. I have read several cases either on this board or other sites where the drugs that worked for me and others don't necessarily work for everyone, which is pretty scary. Hopefully you find something that works for you, maybe others can give advise or when you find something you can come back and post what worked and pass along the help to others. Best of luck to you.

    1. Thanks very much. I am actually seeing 3 specialist at Shands (U Florida). Going back in 2 weeks. They have no explanation, so far. 3 months ago I was 20/25. Thanks again for your good advice.

      1. Hi Lane. From your earlier posts I gather you were diagnosed with MG this year and you mention seeing an ophthalmologist and rheumatologists. But you don't mention a neurologist. I hope you have one. I know you have recovered from double vision, but MG can affect your eyes and your vision in other ways. If a doctor's only tool is a hammer, he will see every problem as a nail. An eye doctor will look for eye problems, when you may be having a muscular problem and eye fatigue resulting from your antibodies. I believe a good neurologist is essential in one's MG journey. Wishing you the best.

      2. Thank you, David. I'm seeing a double board certified Neuro ophthalmologist and a Neurologist who specialises in this disease.

One thing that leaves me dismayed is that I personally went through my list of medications and found two that were contraindicated. I informed the doctors and they changed them. I would have expected that they would have picked this up. I'm in Florida and the healtcare here does not stack up well against a variety of other states.
        Hope you are feeling OK.
        Thanks for writing.

    2. Hi Lane,
Sudden changes in vision, especially without clear findings on scans, can be concerning. Sometimes subtle issues like macular changes, optic nerve problems, or even dry eye or systemic health factors (like blood pressure or diabetes) may not show up immediately on imaging.

It’s good that you’ve had consistent scans, but I’d recommend requesting a thorough eye exam, possibly with a retinal specialist or neuro-ophthalmologist, for a second opinion. Vision fluctuations can sometimes point to underlying issues that need closer investigation.
Wishing you clarity and answers soon.
