Just Starting

I am just starting this journey with feeling huge weights holding my thigh muscles and upper arm muscles down, trouble catching my breath when I bend over or get into bed, having trouble swallowing my own saliva and choking on food, and drooping eyelids. However, they did the blood test looking for the acetylcholine receptor antibody (AChR), and it came back negative. I don't know what that means from here. Has anyone else had this scenario? What happened from here... because I still have all of those symptoms...) Thanks for any guidance here. I am a little stressed, nervous, and frustrated.

  1. Hello from a newly diagnosed"Deborah". 10/10/26 to be exact. Like you, I am still in shock, overwhelmed as my life changed the minute I heard the diagnosis. Initially i was developing difficlty with my tongue working normally, then it progresed to alawys having excess , thick salvia, which gaged me, and my speech being nasally and hoarse. I was have dificulty with my Thyroid hormones at the time too. From hypo to hyper, being screened from Graves, to Parathyroid. My bloowork was negative for antibodies too. Getting weaker and weaker, unable to lift up my arms, , a crisis took me to th ER, where an Astute Physician said I exhibited classic Myasthenia symptoms , did bloodwork prior to starting a series of Immuglobulin infusions. After they were completed, started me on Pyridostigmin 60mg every 8 hours. Within 24 hours i was speaking normally, swallowing It was a miricle. Doctor said even if I did not have Myasthenia, the treatment would not hurt me, but I was in such crisis for so long he wouldn't wait for my breathing to shut down. I am grateful he used his medical judgment and knowledge to make the call. , not just go by test results That is a rare breed these days. Thyroid or another autoimmune could still be in play, but my goal today is to be patient for more results to arrive, many specialized serum tests take weeks, This disease needs to be treated by true clinicians,, willing to think outside the box, not just by Bloodtests results. I would love to share the journey with you, if you wish. I see My new Neuro Monday 10/18 to go over what has been done so far , and develop a plan. I live in Florida and Cleveland Clinic has a Myasthenia Gravis Clinic in their hospital so she is arranging an appointment for me. Look for one closest to you.Educate youself, and use all the info and advice you can from his community. Take care , hope this helped.
