Occular MG moving into generalized

Hi, Diagnosed with MG after double vision and thymoma discovered in 2018. Thymoma was removed and I went on Mestinon. Eyelid improved but in 2020 i stopped taking the Mestinon because of fears with the vaccinations. I seemed to go into remission until last year when i started having trouble with my mouth. Now chewing, swallowing and balance have become difficult, so i think maybe i'm moving into generalized MG. I had lung surgery fall of '24. i'm wondering if high levels of stress and internalized panic may have triggered this. Any thoughts?

  1. Surgeries always pose a big risk for MG and while I have had them when necessary, there are always negative impacts. Trama, anesthesia, drugs, long recoveries and changes in routine knock everything out of whack. Your new symptoms are very common. My chewing and swallowing issues progressed rapidly into generalized MG. Statistically, you were always likely to progress. Did the surgery speed it up? Very possibly. My best advice is to listen to your neurologist and take all your meds religiously. People who start with just ocular MG, I think, tend to be too casual in their approach for too long. You have been very lucky so far, and I'm very happy for you, Your thymoma seems to have given you quite a long period of relief. MG can be episodic and you still might get better for a time., but Myasthenia Gravis is a VERY SERIOUS disease and needs to be treated seriously.
