OMG and Cataracts

I have ocular myasthenia gravis. Have had for almost 35 years. It has been generally stable with treatment of 2.5 mg of prednisone every day. I have a cataract in the same eye where my OMG occurs. I am looking for information on possible impacts of the surgery and what lense to consider. Thanks for any assistance offered!

  1. Get the surgery without fear. It is a very minor procedure and should not acerbate your MG. Tell the anesthesiologist you have MG and don't want any neuro-blocking agents (NMBAs). He'll use a mild, localized sedative for your eyes. I just had both eyes done and the result is nothing less than miraculous. Your ophthalmologist will do measurements to determine the right lens. I don't need glasses at all now. The whole procedure is a breeze. You'll be home for lunch.

    1. Thank you much for the response and advice on the procedure. Glad the procedure went so well for you. I have decided to do the surgery and now just debating the lense. I am leaning towards depth of focus lense for long and medium distance, noting it should work well for someone with stable OMG.

      Thanks again- very much appreciated!
